The Bluffers Song This was the title theme, difficult to write, because the name “Bluffer,” had no connection with the characters or the story. So all I could do was play with the words, and hope no one would notice the meaningless!
I’ve Got It All! The proclamation of greed, by the insanely rich Count Clandestino.
A Whole Lot Of Me Is You Zip’s song of friendship.
Memories Fresh Zok reminisces over his life.
Licky-Sticky-Spoon Honeyboy the honey-mad bear.
Over Bluffoonia In My Baloonia Regal Eagle.
Colors An early attempt to say something about racism.
You Gotta Be Fast On Your Feet Zip’s song.
I’m In a Satellite State The double-meaning of this title will be lost on young people today!
Gin-Seng Sing-Song The health-food fixated goose.
Tic-tock Time Zok puzzles over what is Time.
I Can’t Complain (I Get Kicked In the Rear if I Do) An ironic cry of canine pain.
Fear A frightful song…
Lie, Cheat and Steal! A foxy take on the meaning of life.
Communication (Please Keep In Touch With Me!)
Let Me Play It Again (A Bit More Slowly This Time) Zok’s plea to be young again, using the imagery of an obsolete tape recorder’s rewind function.
Truth! Truth! Zok is convinced that he knows it.
Cabala-bala Psycho the snake’s mumbo-jumbo.
Evolution Convolution Sung & danced by the conjoined twin rabbits, named “Song&Dance.”
Down With Gravity! Song&Dance defy gravity!
Now follow some poignant love songs by the sexy mouse named “Blossom.”
Blossoming A gentle suggestion of puberty
A Wonder of Biology Those sexual urges…..
Lots and Lots Like You and Me Let’s make babies!
I’m Big Enough for Love For a mouse, that is.
Never Trust a Cat Certainly not, if you’re a mouse!
Even a Mouse Can Roar The Mouse Anthem.
Back to Credit 56!

The only significant thing Frank Fehmers changed from my “award winning” concept was the graphic design of the characters. My decision to leave the prject was personal. If Frank is happy with the success of The Bluffers, then so am I.

These songs would have never come about if ‘alcoholic’ Frank Fehmers had not commissioned these texts to Gene Deitch and the music to Eric Jan Harmsen and if he had not changed the ill fated puppet pilot from director Gene Deitch to animation by a third party. The resulting, awarded, series ( 13 episodes of half an hour each) sold to 64 countries and reached #1 on the BBC charts. The scorn of an over-ruled creative person (Gene Deitch) knows no limits. Hey, I should mention, Frank, that I am delighted with the ultimate success of the Bluffers, as it was my creation, my writing, my songs, my character creations that remmained at the heart of it. So hurrah! But I still like my puppet version, considering the primitive conditions we had to work with. It was clear that the technology and production conditions did not yet exist at the time to do THE BLUFFERS as it should have been done. Gene
